When it seems that some companies are trying to get in the mobile field like Apple and Google, others are trying to exploit new horizons. The Linux OS handset developer OpenMoko its taking the first step outside the mobile market.

The new Dash express will be powered by OpenMoko and will download routes and traffic updates via wireless using a remote computer. The price range is from $9.99 to $12.99 and the product itself will cost only $599.

At first  it looks like a useful idea for Android, as Google Maps has already traffic updates and personalised routing. Openmoko is promissing to let users load their own content into the device. The Dash express is avaliable for pre order and should ship in February 2008.

With Google’s platform expectative growing with the first handsets due Q3 this year, rumors about which developing markets will have access to the handset are created, as in some regions in Asia they will access the internet for the first time Google’s Android would be perfectly suited to those users.

Aloysius Choong, IDC Asia-Pacific senior analyst for personal systems, told ZDNet Asia the main attraction Android holds for Asia could initially be the Google brand name.

With Asia users moving towards the 3.5G they tend to have higher demands, especially with fixed rates says Choong. The more you use your phone to access the internet the more you expect it to be flexible, and with Google bringing together great names of mobile and technology industry the internet experience will be maximize"

Andy Rubin, one of the first to work on the Android project said the first handsets will be to mid-end to high-end phones "because of the data access capabilities of the platform".  HTC also involved in the project is believed to be the first to release a Gphone.

Europe is expected to be the first region in which the phones will make their debut, however is still unclear a release date for Asia.  HTC CEO Peter Chou said in November last year that the Taiwanese manufacturer expects to launch two to three Android-based handsets this year.
